The Ultimate Guide to Get Started with Email Marketing

Email marketing is the process of sending out marketing material to your subscribers for a specific purpose, i.e. gathering your targeted customers’ information about your product. The benefit of using email marketing is that it is a cost-effective form of advertising for small and medium-sized businesses.

But before you even start with your successful email marketing campaign, you need to identify the criteria that your audience will consider important. A potential customer’s interest in your products or services is what drives their purchase decision. So the most critical factor would be whether they consider your email marketing an important issue.

After that, you need to know their prospect’s preferences on the subject matter. This includes demographics and any other information about their buying habits. This includes if they are tech-savvy or not, what do they do for fun, what are their interests, etc.

Next, you need to understand that an email marketing campaign will require you to approach your target audience with some skepticism. They will be skeptical about the service you intend to provide to them. And this is why they respond negatively, either by clicking away or unsubscribing from your email list.

All too often, I see marketers give out mass marketing emails without giving any personal attention to their audience. I can relate that with handing me a piece of paper and reading it over again! This is the equivalent of creating a greeting card and delivering it to a random marketer, who wouldn’t read it at all.

Customers also prefer direct sales to marketing methods like PR and PPC. Direct sales offers the customer immediate gratification, and with a higher level of customer satisfaction. It helps that these direct sales firms are usually open at least four days a week.

Marketing through email is far superior to other methods of marketing. But at the same time, there are several disadvantages. The first disadvantage is that the recipient may simply ignore the email. They probably either don’t get the email or the response is just not what they were expecting.

The second disadvantage is that a person may get into a spam trap when engaging in an email campaign. This can cause you a lot of grief if the recipient doesn’t open your email but was directed to another page that ends up infecting them with viruses or tracking software. Remember that emailing is human-to-human communications.

If your content is compelling and interesting, then your recipients will probably respond to your content on a much more relevant email. To encourage this, you need to follow up your email with articles and press releases, as well as other products or services related to your clients’ interests. This will keep them interested in your emails.

And finally, don’t forget to mention your offer and the benefits to your new customers. This will guarantee your business will be able to sustain the person you just sent your email to. Remember, your email is an invitation to a meeting so you want to be sure to convince your customer to attend!

Email marketing is easy, but you have to make sure your customers are ready for the chance to join your email marketing campaign. Therefore, focus on making your prospects interested in your company and you will be rewarded in no time!
